The User Account Control (UAC) is a feature which is new to Windows Vista. It can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users. It is turned on by default and it is NOT recommended to be turned off for security reasons.
This is a good thing but it’s so annoying to most people and for me as well.
The reason why I’m making this article is because I’ve known a LOT of people who switched back to Windows XP because they are annoyed of this feature. They could have simply turned this feature off instead of replacing their Windows Vista.
How to turn off the User Account Control (UAC)
- Click the Start Menu
- Go to Control Panel
- Open User Accounts and Family Safety (or simply User Accounts in Classic View)
- Click “Turn User Account Control on or off” (type the Administrator password if prompted)
- Uncheck “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”
- Click OK and restart your computer to take effect.
Please note that this is a security feature, it is not recommended that you turn this feature off. Do this only if you know what you’re doing. Well if you’re willing to switch back to XP which doesn’t have this feature, then I think you probably know what you’re doing.

Based on www.total-eclipse-2008.com, there are at least 4 obvious advantages:
- Eclipse path in Siberia passes big cities, while in China it goes through the difficult to access regions near the Gobi desert.
- Eclipse duration in Siberia is a bit longer which is 2:14 to 2:27 minutes, while in China it is less than 2:10 minutes.
- Eclipse in Siberia will be seen at higher solar angle which is more convenient for observation.
- Eclipse in China will be a week prior the Olympic Games with Opening at August 8, drawing the attention of people and law-enforcement authorities much more than the Eclipse.
And lastly, it’s a real change to see an immense and breathtaking terra incognita of Russia and to evaluate it by your own!
Well, I think the forth reason is quite lame. This Russian website is just trying to draw convince people to visite their country. Sort of a promotion or something. But in fairness, their website has a complete detail about the event, VERY detailed in fact. Lots of “nerdy” stuff which even I myself don’t really understand…

Path of August 2008 Total Solar Eclipse
On August 1, 2008, a total solar eclipse will occur as the new moon moves directly between the sun and the earth. The total solar eclipse begins at 6:09 pm China time near the windswept high grasslands northeast of the small hamlet of Yiwu, about two hours north of Hami in the Xinjiang province of China. The moon’s umbral shadow will fall on parts of Canada, Greenland, the Arctic Ocean, Russia, Mongolia, and China.
As in the total solar eclipses of 1999, 2001, and 2006, a team of Exploratorium and NASA heliophysics experts will adeptly capture and broadcast the Eclipse live from yet another specially chosen international locale. Thanks to satellite technology, you can watch it from your planetarium or local museum — or even from home at your computer screen.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR LOCAL TIMES FOR THE ECLIPSE.
